Where to draw the line?

30 09 2008

Rev. Dennis Meredith, a pastor in Atlanta, now supports the gay lifestyle.  He was once a pastor who condemned it.  Why did he suddenly change his mind?  What made this pastor ignore numerous passages of the Bible?  Well, his son “came out of the closet” at age 21 and told his father that it made him “feel sad” when he would preach that homosexuality is a sin.  Now his son, who is still openly living a life of sin, is the music director, and the church has an 85% homosexual congregation.

Something is clearly and utterly wrong here.  The fact that a pastor would deny parts of the Bible and distance himself and his church from God… Wow!  Read the rest of this entry »

Prop 8 – Protecting Marriage

29 09 2008

I will be voting “Yes” on Prop 8 this November to protect marriage, and I hope you will too.  If you call yourself a Christian, I think that voting “Yes” on Prop 8 should be a pretty clear cut and easy decision to make.  Here are the reasons…

Homosexuality is a sin:

Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable. [Lev. 18:22]

If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads. [Lev. 20:13] Read the rest of this entry »

Sunday 9/28/08 Prayer

28 09 2008

Lord,

Thank you for my partner, my love, my wife.  She is the perfect companion for me… a helper to submit to me.  Not a helper as in a slave or a servant, but as in a partner, an equal, a wife to complete my life.  Lord, may she submit to me because I strive to love her as myself, as Jesus loves the Church.  Help me Lord, to serve her as You serve the Body of Christ.  Thank your for building the foundation of marriage here on Earth, to mirror that of the one that exists between the Church (the bride) and Jesus (the groom).

Please help us Lord to protect marriage and its representation of salvation.  Lord, I believe that marriage was created by You, and that it is designed to be between one man and one woman.  That the image of my wife and me married and being faithful to each other according to the way you designed is truly a miracle, a tangible representation of salvation.  Help us Lord here in California and our country to protect the sanctity of marriage and to stand up for You against sin and unholiness.

Amen

Helping, one click at a time

26 09 2008

Seeing that I love dogs, I thought I would share a website that I visit daily.

http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/home.faces?siteId=3

Each click on the purple button donates enough money to buy 0.6 bowls of food for cats and dogs in shelters.  After you click, scroll down to the bottom of the page to see daily totals.  Each day (weekday that is… less people click on the weekends) enough people click to donate roughly 200,000 bowls of food.

The Click Count

This food is paid for by the advertisements on the page, which surprisingly aren’t that chaotic to look at.  So there you have it, feed some shelter animals and have fun clicking!

How do you hear God?

24 09 2008

One thing that I have always struggled with as a Christian is when people say “Don’t worry about it, God will tell you what to do.”  I don’t get it.  I have never heard God tell me to buy a certain car, or move to a certain place, and it is hard for me to believe it happens.  Sometimes I just think that following God is to sit back and let your life unfold, but other times I think “what if God wanted me to do (example), but I didn’t because it didn’t unfold seamlessly?”  How do you balance this?

Current life example: Emily and I have been trying to buy a condo for about 2 months now, and we have been unsuccessful.  We have put offers on 3 places and all 3 of them went to other buyers.  Does that mean God was watching out for Emily and me?  That we shouldn’t buy a condo at the moment, even though prices are down and most assuredly going to increase in the short years to come?  Does it mean that we should stop trying, or that the right one simply hasn’t come up yet (the last one really seemed like the “right one”) and we should keep looking?

Possible future dog…

23 09 2008

Over the past couple months (in anticipation of getting a dog) I have comprised a list of dog breeds that I like.  If anyone could give me advice, concerns, etc. about certain breeds that would be wonderful.

I have always liked shaggy dogs (bearded collies, Tibetan terriers, etc) but recently my attention has been stolen by a breed that I have never seen before… Pyrenean Shepherds.  They come in two varieties: smooth-faced and rough-faced, and lots of colors.

Rough-faced fawn Pyrenean Shepherd

Rough-faced brindle Pyrenean Shepherd

Other breeds that interest me are:

  • Bichon
  • Border Terrier
  • Vizsla
  • Puli
  • Pointer
  • Schiperkee
  • Airedale
  • Beagle
  • West Highland White Terrier
  • Cairn Terrier
  • Norfolk Terrier
  • German Shorthaired Pointer (if they are pretty dark)

A new inspiration…

22 09 2008

Growing up with dogs made for an interesting and fun childhood.  Our family got its first dog when I was around 5.  Shortly there after my mom got involved in showing and breeding different dogs.  The most dogs we had at any given time was prolly around 11 likely including some puppies.  Currently my mom has 6 dogs, which is still a lot, but slightly less than our average for the past 15 years which I would say was 8.

At times having this many dogs seemed like too many, and overwhelmed my sister greatly.  They definitely created a house environment that was more chaotic and dirty (dog hair mostly) than most.

Since going away to college I have missed having dogs around.  Walking around I find that I ask more and more people if I can say hello to their dog(s).  I have always been really good about reading what a dog is thinking by its body language, likely from growing up around them. One of my favorite encounters with a stranger’s dog was when I went to the Wal-Mart over by Fry’s on the 15.  Wal-Mart was conveniently located next to a Petco, and I saw a cute 5-month-old komador puppy exiting the store.  I approached the owner, asked for permission, and received the response “You are welcome to, but she usually doesn’t like men”.  I didn’t see much reservation in the dog, but I knelt down and started petting and playing with the puppy.  I received a couple comments like “Wow, she really seems to like you” and “This is really amazing, she never says hello to men, let alone seems to like them” from the owner, which made me smile and bolstered my confidence.  After only about 30 seconds to 1 minute of visiting with the owner and her dog we parted ways.

Recently I ran across this website http://www.silvia.trkman.net/ and my desire to have a dog has grown even more.  This woman is quite possibly the greatest dog trainer I have ever seen.  She has won nearly every agility competition multiple times, and reading articles on her website has created a great longing for a canine companion in my life.  If you do nothing else, check out the video below.  If you are interested further, visit her website, click “Videos” on the left, and watch some other trick videos (I would recommend “Two Legged Tricks”), you will be amazed by some of the things she has trained her dogs to do.

One of my very own…

22 09 2008

Well, I have decided that I did not like to manage my own website, and that posting news and events there was too much hassle.  So after taking the advice of a dear friend (Jason Merino) I have activated my very own wordpress page, and am currently playing with its features.  Maybe the ease of this website will provide me with more motivation to keep the world updated on the happenings of my life.
